Description: Learn how to do Blackwork, an embroidery created with straight stitches in a thread color that contrasts with the background fabric. Stitch the three different patterns which use backstitch and running stitches and see how to create simple to complex shading within a single pattern. Blackwork is traditionally done with black thread on white fabric to create geometric designs. But today, stitchers may use all thread colors and create contemporary art, such as landscapes and portraits.
In this workshop, we will practice the three ways to stitch Blackwork: backstitch, double running aka Holbein Stitch, and the running backstitch. You will then be able to create your own designs or easily follow commercial patterns. Instructor will bring examples.
